LDNA meeting

There are two upcoming events I want to share with everyone…
Nice one first. The next LDNA meeting will be held Monday, February 27th, 7PM at LTC.
We have only one agenda item: Election of Officers. If anyone is interested in a position on the board please let me know or we are happy to accept nominations from the floor. Current officers:
President, Kathleen Marcin; Vice-President, Stephen Greene; Secretary, Adam Jensen; Treasurer Greg Page.

Speaking of Greg Page, 7:30- 9:00 we will convene to the Worthen, 2nd floor. Penny Hamourgas, owner Worthen, Brian Mcinerney owner Hookslide Kelly’s and Bobby Tugyiele, President, Center City Committee have made arrangements for a Downtown business and residents social. This will be a nice opportunity to gather in a less formal setting. What will make this a seriously festive occasion is the fact that our Treasurer Greg Page will be joining us after a very long year of duty in Afghanistan. Yeah and Yeah!

The second comes in the aftermath of a young man being critically assaulted on Market St. in front of Enterprise parking lot last weekend (the second such incident in the last 3 weeks). I should mention that owners of Village Smokehouse have offered an additional $1,000.00 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the assailants.
Last night the city council voted to hold a special meeting to discuss downtown issues. The meeting will be held Thursday, February 16th at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chamber, City Hall. City Councilors, Police Department, Administration and License Commission will all be in attendance.

In light of License commissioner Wieker’s comment in the SUN “they never hear from residents about any problems” I encourage everyone to attend. You do not have to speak at the meeting unless you choose to do so but it is important for the city council to know we appreciate their efforts in holding this meeting and having a constructive conversation about the issues we continue to face in the development of our neighborhood.

SAVE THE DATE

Annual “Spring” Neighborhood Food Drive (a.k.a. The Pantry Raid)! The drive is schedule for March 17 – March 24 with bag distribution being completed by Thursday March 22nd and the pick up on Saturday, March 24! I realize that for some of you March 17th is considered one of the major holidays throughout the year….feel free to begin on the 18th (maybe the 19th)!

License Commission Public Hearing

CITY OF LOWELL

LICENSE COMMISSION

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The License Commission of the City of Lowell will hold a public hearing on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Lowell City Hall, 2nd floor, Council Chamber at 375 Merrimack Street on the request of the City Manager that the License Commission change time of meetings from 3:00 p.m. on Thursdays, to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays; meetings to be held in the Council Chamber.
The reason for the request to change meeting time was on a motion voted by the City Council; read and referred to the City Manager, November 29, 2011: “changing the meeting time to the evening because many people are unable to attend 3 p.m. meetings due to their work and business commitments. Councilors discussed changing License Commission meeting times to allow for more community input.”
The License Commission will open the hearing for public comment; the licensing board reserves the right to limit the time for public comment.
