LICENSE COMMISSION PUBLIC HEARING

The License Commission of the City of Lowell will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at City Hall, Council Chamber, 2nd floor, 375 Merrimack Street, on the revised Alcohol Beverages Regulations for Licenses Issued by the Lowell License Commission: General Licensing Rules for Licensees; Conditions for an Alcoholic Beverages License; Rules for Selling Alcohol; Rules for Serving. The License Commission shall consider the public need in accordance with section 12 of chapter 138, MGL, to decrease hours for the sales of alcoholic beverages from 2:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the calendar week.

Lowell Police Seek Help in Locating Vandals

LOWELL, MA (April 1, 2013) – Over this past weekend numerous vehicles located in the Belvidere and South Lowell sections of the city sustained damage. Numerous vehicles were damaged by large rocks being thrown at these parked vehicles. Reports indicate that this took place March 30th at roughly 2 a.m. There were close to 20 vehicles damaged. The rocks that were used to cause this damage appear to be landscaping type rocks. A witness saw a pickup truck driving away from one of the incidents in South Lowell.

These incidents are being investigated. Patrols in both conventional marked cruisers and unmarked units will be increased in the area. Increased traffic enforcement will also be conducted in these areas in attempt to curb such acts.

Kearney Square Bridge replacement

  • This project is expected to take 6 months and be completed by the beginning of September

  • Construction will be done in two phases with two lanes of traffic and a sidewalk maintained throughout

  • Traffic lanes will be narrow (9’ in each direction) but passable; care should be exercised when traveling through this area

  • This project is being funded by Boott Hydropower, Inc., a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, Inc.

  • Current Status:

    • Traffic management signage and barriers are mostly installed

    • Demolition expected to being next week

Beginning Tuesday, March 5 work will begin with installation of traffic control devices and other activity in preparation for reconstruction

This project is expected to take 6 months and be completed by the end of August

Construction will be done in two phases with two lanes of traffic and a sidewalk maintained throughout

Traffic lanes will be narrow (9’ in each direction) but passable; care should be exercised when traveling through this area

This project is being done by Boott Hydropower, Inc., a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, Inc.

A construction informational meeting will be held on March 11, 2013 at 7 PM at Middlesex Community College
